Following the Leicester riots in September 2022, the United Kingdom Indian Muslim Council (UK-IMC), along with 200 other Muslim organisations, has decided not to engage with the government-led inquiry into the riots due to deep concerns over the choice of Chair and his previous Islamophobic remarks. Instead, we have undertaken a separate independent inquiry into the causes of the serious unrest in the city.

We have collected hundreds of incidents that seriously impacted the Muslim community in Leicester, which would have otherwise gone unreported. We have now concluded the collection of empirical data from the community. The report is currently being prepared and will be released soon. Additionally, we have decided to cooperate with the independent inquiry led by SOAS. Please stay tuned for both reports.
